The Empire realised that it needed a new fighter to take on the rebel X-Wing. Sienar Fleet Systems designed the TIE Interceptor to be a bigger and faster version of the standard TIE Fighter. Equipped with 4 wing mounted laser cannons and increased speed and manoeuvrability, the Interceptor is the fastest mass production fighter in the galaxy.
